Meditation Mentoring

Meditation Mentoring
Live, online or in person.
I'm Zsolt, and I warmly welcome you.

The mind can be trained, and meditation is the gym.

When I was fifteen, I heard the sound of the Japanese Zen flute shakuhachi for the first time - from that moment on, there was no turning back: I set out in search of a master. Today I am grateful to many teachers, to a few masters, and to countless sentient awakened—or awakening—beings for helping me arrive here, in the here and now: everyone is a master. Everything had been right in front of me all along. Yet I couldn't skip the thirty years of searching and striving - just as you probably can't.

As a young adult, I immersed myself in the Japanese, Tibetan, and Western Buddhism. In my forties, I was drawn into the universe of yoga. In recent years, however, my greatest teacher has become the wisdom of life itself as it unfolds—personalized—in my everyday life, in the healing space of constellations, and through the unfolding of my creations. Everything is meditation. The ultimate meditation is without purpose, without technique, without cause and it happens by itself, there is nothing you need to do to for it. You already are what you are seeking.

As a beginner—or as a constant beginner—you can only begin meditation here and now, in this very moment. Always here. Always now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not during a Meditation Mentoring session - but here and now, as you are reading these words. Take a deep breath then exhale slowly, gently, and just a little longer than usual, without forcing it too much. Then do it again. And again. This is the foundation of all meditation and mindful presence. Small steps take us far, meditation practices gradually transform our everyday lives into something precious, golden, and we can benefit from them anywhere: while waiting at a bus stop, while cooking, even while making love—whenever we notice that we have drifted away from the present moment.

One of meditation's greatest paradoxes is that it is both the easiest and the hardest thing in the world. It also runs counter to almost everything that today's fragmented, distracted, and increasingly regressive mainstream culture presents as valuable or worth pursuing - in that sense, it helps to have someone who can encourage you, point out alternatives, and illuminate paths that have outlived every collapsing civilization over the past several thousand years. Not so that you follow someone else's path, but so that you can discover—and courageously embrace—your own path of meditation and life, whatever that may be, here and now, within the culture to which you belong.

An important part of Meditation Mentoring is learning how to sustain our enthusiasm and not lose our motivation on the path of meditation, despite the obstacles we encounter. More often than not, the very experiences we most want to escape or turn away from are the ones that point most directly toward awakening. Rather than seeing our difficulties as obstacles, we can learn to recognize them as profound, deeply personal teachings—tailor-made for our own path.

The difference between the myth of freedom and freedom can only be discovered through your own experience—in your own body, your own soul, and your own life. A master, a teacher, or a spiritual friend can only point to the sun. It is you who must step into its life-giving light. Through simple, practical meditation exercises, we gently and pragmatically support you in discovering your own path—toward genuine inner freedom and clear awareness, in a way that can be naturally integrated into everyday life.

Chaos → Focus
Control → Trust
Suppression → Integration
Separation → Unity
Searching → Flow → Serenity → Inner Stillness

With gentle, precise, and non-judgmental mindfulness, we turn toward the world of both inner and outer phenomena, remaining open to direct experience. In this process, our most reliable anchor is the breath—always with us, as long as we are alive. This is not a technique for getting somewhere or becoming someone else. It is the recognition that you are already here, and nowhere else. In this present moment—not in the past, not in the future. Here. Now.

Our original nature is the still and whole awareness—a presence that witnesses all phenomena. We wipe the dust from the mirror so that we can see ourselves clearly and allow the light to shine freely. The light of the soul. The soul is like the vast blue sky; the events of life are the clouds that come and go. The blue sky is the boundless nature of our being, while the dancing clouds are life itself. This is not about emptying the mind or attaining some extraordinary state of consciousness. It is about noticing, again and again, whenever we have wandered off the path—whether in subtle ways or in major ones.

Meditation is the art of the soul unfolding, breathing, and finding its way home. As a flower blossoms, so the soul unfolds.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to slow down time and expand the space is through slow, deep, mindful breathing. If you too often feel that there is never enough time, this may become one of your most valuable tools. With every inhalation, I open, expand, and receive. With every exhalation, I soften, relax, and let go. And in the brief pause between the exhale and the next inhale, I rest. Say to yourself: "I am my breathing. Here and now, my only task in this world is to breathe." Throughout the practice meet every experience that arises as a good parent would: with gentle firmness - and do that even before and after the meditation practice as well.

The world of meditation is rich and colorful, across time and throughout every culture on Earth, we find its many forms—most often rooted in spiritual or religious traditions. We are fortunate to live in an age where these diverse traditions are more accessible than ever before, and all at the same time. Different paths of meditation awaken different layers of the awakenment that already lives within us, guiding us step by step through ever-deeper stages of awakening. From each new level, we gain a clearer view of the earlier stages with which we once identified. It is a continuous expansion—an ever-widening awareness that embraces more and more.

Meditation did not begin as a technique or a system - it arose as a simple, direct human experience. At the core of our being is the boundless clarity of the soul - meditation is a practical way of directly experiencing that reality. Through it, we move beyond the surface of ordinary thinking and arrive in the silence between thoughts. There, beyond the white and gray clouds, the vast blue sky and the radiant golden sun have always been waiting.

The mind can be trained, and meditation is the gym. But just as we spend only a certain amount of time in the gym before returning to our daily lives, we also always return from formal meditation to life itself. Meditation is not confined to the time we spend practicing—this is the greatest paradox of meditation. A single conscious breath, if experienced fully and without distraction, is already meditation. That is where it all begins.

We do not torture ourselves with meditation techniques to become professional meditators - but we practice them so that we can meet life more fully—and live with greater joy, clarity, beauty, and authenticity. The highest level of meditation is not what happens during formal practice, but how we show up in our own lives: in our everyday moments, in relationship with our own destiny and future, with authenticity, courage, and serenity. To stand fully present at the center of the mandala of our own life.

"Blessings.
You’re on your own.
Together with everything."
Edward Espe Brown

"Remember where living koans come from. They are not born in books. They begin as someone's living, vital doubt. Instead of endlessly reading and ruminating over somebody else's traditional koans, discover – uncover – your own living koan: that ultimate doubt that sticks in your gut. Then answer it through your life. No need to imitate anyone else. Just get to the very bottom of your "self." Your own living koan can be the way." Jeff Shore

"Whether in Persia and it's called Sufi, or in Judaea, near the Dead Sea, and they are called the Essenes, or in tattered Polish villages and called Hassids - one feels that he finally arrived home. A special familiarity. A special intimacy, confidence and good faith in each other. A simplicity, sign and protest against what has been going on for thousands of years of history. In the midst of cultures that come and go something that cannot be destroyed. Amidst the evanescent nations something that is absolutely positive. Without any missionary propaganda and war, or professional clergy. One knows: this is it. This is it." Béla Hamvas on zen
